Becoming a Christian

Becoming a Christian
For many, including those of us born into Christian families, this seems to have happened almost naturally. But even for us, it is necessary to take three simple steps:

         1. Admit that we have fallen short of what God meant us to be.

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God      Romans 3:23

2. Believe that Jesus is God’s son, sent to make us what God meant us to be.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.     John 3:16

3. Confess our sins, asking God’s forgiveness, then choose to follow Christ, inviting him to control our life.

If we confess our sins, he ..... will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  1 John 1:9

To become a disciple of Jesus is to become a learner of his way. For us that is to pursue the spiritual disciplines, including Bible study and prayer.

To be a disciple of Jesus is to live in intimate, personal relationship with Him. That relationship transforms the way we live, enabling us to become more like Him in attitudes and actions.  Salvationists call this the life of holiness.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24 New International Version
